Day 11 - Yak Kharka - Thorung Phedi (4450m/14,600ft) November 9, 2001

After a very cold night in Yak Kharka we started on the trail for Thorung Phedi

One thing about altitude and cold weather, it makes you pee more frequently, night and day

....................................................

Following the Jhargeng Khola on a very bright day.

We had to cross the Jhargeng Khola to get to Thorung Phedi

Several groups watched our progress and subsequently backtracked to follow us as Chris and our Nepali guides knew the easiest route to Thorung Phedi. Those that didn't follow us had a tougher route including a steep diagonal descent to the river valley

Bhola (our sirdar) vs a Yak.....I put my money on Bhola

Taking a break as we approach Thorung Phedi

The Thorung Phedi area

Phedi is Nepali for "foot of the hill"

Our campsite about 60m above Thorung Phedi Here some of us experienced some AMS symptons. I took my first Diamox pill. Consequently I had to get up at 10pm, 1:50am and 4:20am to pee, not as bad as I thought. The reported record for Diamox-induced night time peeing is something like 17 times in one night!
