Day 15 - Dhumpa Tal - Marpha - Tukuche - Kalopani (2530m/8301ft) November 13, 2001

The picturesque town of Marpha, 2670m/8760ft a favourite trekking stopover. Reputed to be the cleanest, most efficiently run town in Nepal.

The Solmi Tashi Lha K'an gompa above the middle of the town

Watching ceremonies inside the gompa

We had lunch this day in Tukuche 2590m/8497ft

The Kali Gandaki river bed is quite wide and flat here with numerious criss-crossing tributaries

A washed out foot bridge forced us to wade across thigh deep, ice cold water

Crossing over to the east side of the Kali Gandaki valley

Kokenthanti, 2995m/9826ft

At this point we were 45 minutes from our campsite at Kalopani

..............................................

According to the Bryn Thomas Annapurna guidebook this area would be the deepest valley in the world as this valley is flanked by 2 of the 8 highest mountains in the world, Dhaulagiri and Annapuran I

I would have thought that distinction would be at Tatopani, over 1900m lower further down the valley but I'm no geography expert
