Day 19 - Ghorepani - Poon Hill - Tadapani - Ghandruk

(1930m/6332ft) November 17, 2001

We awoke at 5:15am this morning to begin a dark ascent to Poon Hill, one of the best viewpoints in the Himalayas. We ascended 443m/1453ft from Ghorepani to the summit of Poon Hill.

The hill is named Poon after a large Magar family who dominate the area.

There were probably 200-300 people with us on the summit 3193m/10,476ft

Waiting for the clouds to clear.

On a clear day from Poon Hill you can see a Himalayan panorama stretching from Dhaulagiri to Annapurna to Manaslu in the east; the mountain ranges of 3 of the 10 highest mountains on Earth

At least the clouds were pretty

Leaving Poon Hill a tad disappointed.

Ghorepani way down in the distance

On a clear day thes are the spetacular views from Poon Hill. No wonder so many people come here.
