Day 2 Phakding - Namche Bazaar (3440m/11,286ft) April 6, 2000

Day 3 - Namche Bazaar - Khunde - Khumjung - Namche Bazaar April 7, 2000

Breakfast the next morning.

This is the entrance to Sagamartha National Park, at Jorsale. This is the begining of the Khumbu region. Don't try to sneak through, those are automatic weapons these soldiers are toting.

Suspension bridges are chock-a-block in the lower Khumbu

Lunch by the Dudh Kosi.....more squash juice please!

Here along the Dudh Kosi river we begin our ascent of Namche Hill. Little did we know the 3 hours / 3000ft of hell ahead for us.

Here you see the bridge across the Dudh Kosi that takes you to Namche hill (left)

Namche, the center of commerce in the Khumbu.

The mountain range in the background is Kwande

Our tentsite was perched on a shelf overlooking the town at 11,700ft / 3560m. ..sleepwalkers exercise caution.

We spent 2 days at Namche as this is the 1st place most people spend an extra acclimatization day.

Another view of our campsite above Namche

On our acclimatization day in Namche some of us made an excursion to Khumjung (12,400ft / 3780m), home of the first school built by Sir Edmund Hilary as well as Khunde where we visited the well known hospital staffed by volunteer western doctors

............................................

Bad luck would have it that we just missed his visit to Khumjung by 1 day.

The Saturday morning market is quite a busy place.
