Day 11 - Dughla - Pheriche - Upper Pangboche (4000m/13,123ft) April 15, 2000

A sad day at our camp at Dughla as the group split into 2.

.........................................................

Joe, Ron, Melissa and John head off to summit Island Peak 20,252ft / 6173m)(which they did successfully!!) and the rest of us descended to Pangboche via Pheriche.

Pheriche 4280m/14,042ft

A prestigious volunteer staff position, the Everest region Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) clinic can be found here. I was reminded here that women can be doctors too, thanks Lisa!

After lunch in Pheriche we follow the Imja Khola towards Pangboche

You're never far from a Yak train when you use a main trail in the Khumbu. Just don't stand on the other side or you may find yourself tumbling down the mountain; trekkers have died as a result of Yak bumps

Behind me is the Pangboche Gompa, at 333 years old it's the oldest monastery in the Khumbu
