Day
13 - Khumjung - Namche - Chumoa (2820m/9252ft)
April 17, 2000
View of Khumjung,
12,402ft / 3780m
A stark example
of the massive deforestation in the Khumbu; the reason why we smelled
so bad well into the trek....(we avoided showers that were heated
by firewood)
Fantastic view
of (1)Everest, (2)Lhotse, (3)Ama Dablam from
the Everest View Hotel 12,795ft / 3900m
Another view
from the Everest View Hotel. The town carved into the plateau
at the bottom left is Phortse.
We descended
to Phortse by crossing from the other side of that mountain on the
previous day
Nice view of
Kwande on a ridge between Khumjung and Namche
View of Namche
Bazaar from above on a clear day.
Every town had
"The World's Highest Solar Heated Hot Tub"
While descending
Namche Hill we reflected often on what a bitch of a hill this was
to ascend!
...............................
Halfway down it was fun to tell people that they were almost at the
top.
After crossing
this bridge this mountain goat was grabbed and dragged away (presumably
for dinner) by 2 Nepali soldiers, despite Lisa's protests.
Our campsite
at Chumoa, not far after leaving Sagamartha Park.
