November 8, 2006: Day 11 - El Castillo - Arenal

Panoramic view of our hotel in El Castillo, Arenal Vista Lodge.

Nice pool only Erik used

View from our room. Unfortunately the previous night was rainy and then cloudy so we couldn't see any lava

Arenal is one of the 10 most active volcanoes in the world. Lava can be seen regularly on a clear night.

This was the morning of our first day of mountain biking.

We'd first ride 5km up and down dirt road (flat tire along the way) to the Arenal Observatory where we would hike for an hour and then 15km along paved road to La Fortuna

The lava rock here came from a 1992 eruption
