Buenos Aires - with upwards of 13 million people in the greater metropolitan area it is the 2nd or 3rd largest city in South America (depending on which statistic you read). About 1 out of 3 Argentines live in the greater Buenos Aires area. Nestled along the Rio del Plata (river of silver) it has been called the Paris of South America. Birthplace of Tango.

Meera, Ashok, Shea, Valmir and myself stayed at this nice hotel centrally located at Paraguay and Libertad, just a block next to Av. Julio 9. This part of town is called the Retiro district.


The famous Avenida Julio 9, the widest street in the world. 16 lanes wide with a couple of islands in the middle. Bit of task to cross when you're in a hurry.


In the heart of the city, in the upscale Recoleta neighbourhood is the Cementerio de la Recoleta with its very famous resident...

Having an authentic Argentine Asado dinner, at a fancy restaurant called Rodivio in the Puerto Madero riverside area of town, with my young friend Juan. Juan lived for a year in Detroit Michigan staying as a high school homestay student with my friends Bill and Liane.

Juan taught me one of the most important Spanish phrases I used on my trip:
