November 4 - Day 4
- Lago del Desierto
|
|

I'm
here with Andrea, Eduardo's girlfriend and
a film maker. She writes scripts for Mexican television.
|
|

A
forest fire directly in our path spoiled our plans
for today to visit Laguna Torres for views
of Cerro Torres. So we had to head back to
El Chalten and find something else to do this day.
|
|

Great
view of Fitz Roy along the trail

|

Slightly
over exposed picture taken in extremely windy conditions
On
the way back to Chalten we had a close flyby within
20m by an Andean Condor! Its wingspan was huge. Unfortunately
none of us had our cameras ready, you'll have to take
our word for it.
|
|

After
returning to El Chalten, we chartered a van to take
us 30km north to Lago del Desierto. Here I'm
standing by a glacial Laguna Huemel with its
likewise named glacier in the background
|
|

It
was a pleasant 40 min walk through forests alongside
a glacial stream from our drop off point to the glaciar

|

Victoria
gingerly making her way across a rickety old foot
bridge
|
|

Lago
del Desierto, very close to Chile. In fact, this
area is one of several disputed borders between Argentina
and Chile.

|

Next
stop, El Calafate
