November 5 - Day 5 - Laguna Torre

On this day we were going to El Calafate at 6pm so we made arrangements to take a hike to Laguna Torre to see Cerro Torres, which was what we would have saw the previous day had it not been for the forest fire. Unfortunately Meera wasn't feeling well so her and Ashok stayed in town and rested while the rest of us did the 3.5 hr hike each way after getting up very early. The mountain in this picture is Cerro Solo ie. the Lonely Mountain.

View of the valley on the way to Laguna Torre

Along the trail lay the fire fighting gear used yesterday to extinguish the fire...which was apparently set by a careless smoker!@#$! The firefighters in the National Park are all volunteers, like our guide Eduardo.

stark evidence of the fire damage from the previous day

close to Laguna Torres were these cables and a warning sign....

Don't know about you but I would hate to die a woman

Here we are at the edge of Laguna Torre

Cerro Torre, Glaciar del Torre and Laguna Torre

Spetacular Cerro Torre, 3128m. Its peak is usually shrouded in cloud so we were very lucky this day to see it exposed.
