November 6 - Day 6: Perito Moreno
|
|

In
El Calafate we stayed at the Albergue del Glaciar.
It's the International Youth Hostel. We had very nice
rooms in this well run, busy place. It was a bit out
of the way, a 15 min brisk walk to get to the town
centre.

|

No
rest for the weary. After eating dinner to 12:30am
the previous night because of our late arrival from
Chalten, we were off at 8am for the 3hr bus ride to
the world famous Perito Moreno glacier, one
of the most dramatic natural wonders in South America.
We shared the bus with a large group of Belgians whom
we would encounter again in Chile and again in Ushuaia.
And we met 2 Brits, Graham and Linda, who became honourary
members of our group. Here we taking a photo break
en route to the glacier.

|

Finally
after almost 3hrs we could see the glacier about 5km
away. Now we were in Parque Nacional Los Glaciares,
a very large park in which Perito Moreno is the main
attraction, situated on the western end of Lago
Argentino, the largest lake in Argentina.
