November 7 - Day 7 - Upsala, Onelli, Spegazzini
|
|

So
the 7 of us decided to take a day long cruise within
the Parque Nacional Los Glaciars to see 3 glaciers.
Seemed like a great idea at the time but in hindsight
I should have done the Perito Moreno ice walk

|

We
were onboard a large passenger ship, with seating
for 320 ....and there were around 280 onboard but
it felt more like 500. You could escape the crowd
below to the deck above but that cold Patagonian wind
would get you.

Upsala
glacier was our first destination, unfortunately it
started to rain and it was cold so being on the deck
was not particularly pleasant. This is the longest
glacier in South America and the largest one in Argentina
stats:
lenght 60km. surface area 595km2. width 6km. height
60-80m
|
|

The
glacier bears the name of the Swedish town whose university
sponsored the first glacialogical exploration of it
at the turn of the 20th century.
|
|

After
a few hours we managed to muscle our way onto a table
and make our lunch, we came prepared, including corkscrew
on hand. What would a meal on this trip be without
a nice bottle of red wine
|
|

In
the early afternoon the ship docked and everyone got
off....into pouring rain, to be herded for about 20
mins to see Onelli glacier
