forest in the Rio Ascensio valley. Still no wind or
clouds this glorious day

we reached a sign post indicating 45 mins to the top,
but the last 45 minutes would be a bitch

hot slog over rocky moraine

Destination!
Las Torres and a glacial lake. The granite towers
were formed some 12 million years ago when forces
in the earth pushed the upper layers of the crust
skywards.

What
a way to spend my birthday
|

Great
spot for lunch, 800m higher than when we started that
morning.

Shades
of the Thorung La in Nepal 2 years prior....the gang
sang happy birthday to me at this spot!
