Our camp at the top of the 3rd pass at Phuyu Pata Marca, 3600m/11,800ft

Zack and Ewald enjoying the view. Machu Picchu is over a km lower in altitude, to the left of the mountains at the left side of this photograph

The tourist trap town of Aguas Calientes, over a mile (1600m) lower in altitude, where we'll be spending the following night.

More stunning views

Just next to our camp site is the Inca cloud level town of Phuyu Pata Marca. Re-discovered by, guess who, Hiram Bingham and excavated by Dr Fejos 3 decades later.

A closer view of the top of the ruin

High altitude tent city. My tent was the bottom-right most yellow tent.
