Inca Trail Day 1

Our journey began at Km 82 near Chilca. Here at the first checkpoint each trekker must register including providing passport details


Across the footbridge and the the journey on the Inca Trail begins


 

On this first day we began around an altitude of 2400m.


At these "lower" altitudes mosquitos are an annoyance

By late morning we encounter the first major Inca site, Patallacta adn Pulpituyoc. Rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. Patallacta was primarily an agricultural area used for growing Maize. Pulpituyoc was a religious complex.
